Mercedes were left fuming at the Italian Grand Prix after defending champion and race leader Lewis Hamilton was given a stop-and-go-penalty which pushed him to finish in the 7th spot. AlphaTauri's Pierre Gasly seized the opportunity and won his maiden Formula 1 race less than a second ahead of McLaren's Carlos Sainz. Racing Point's Lance Stroll completed the podium as Gasly became the first Frenchman to win a Grand Prix since Olivier Panis in 1996. Ferrari's horror season continued as the two cars driven by Charles Leclerc and Sebastian failed to finish at their home race.
