In its latest regulations for the fourth phase of unlocking, the central government has kept bars out of the list of prohibited activities. This has allowed the reopening of bars and pubs but states get to set their own rules.
Bars will reopen in Karnataka, West Bengal and Goa from September. The watering holes will, however, function at 50 per cent of their regular capacity and social distancing is mandatory. Restaurants with a liquor licence can also begin serving booze at 50 per cent occupancy.
Keeping in mind social distancing rules, dancing and downing drinks at the bar counter or even asking the DJ to play your favourite song will not be possible for now. Eateries may even limit the amount of time each diner can spend at the joint and you may need to reserve tables in advance.
