Govt hints at closed door meet with Oppn on LAC: report

Under opposition attack over shying from a debate on the India-China standoff in Parliament, the government has hinted that a closed-door meeting on the border situation may be considered, the Hindustan Times has reported.

The opposition has beeen demanding a discussion in Parliament on the LAC standoff while the govt is reluctant to hold a full-fledged debate on the sensitive issue. A final decision on any such meeting, where the opposition parties would be briefed on the military standoff along the Line of Actual Control, is yet to be taken.

According to the proposal, the defence ministry brass may brief floor leaders of different parties behind closed doors on efforts to normalise the situation, and reply to queries they may have on the subject.
