Different studies published in the National Institute of Health of the United States show that these seeds have a range of health benefits.

Reduces inflammation

Sunflower seeds contain vitamin E, flavonoids, and other plant compounds that can reduce inflammation. A study in over 6000 adults found that eating sunflower seeds five times or more each week resulted in 32% lower levels of inflammation. This in turn lowered risk factors for several chronic diseases in the participants.

Lowers diabetes

Sunflower seeds have a promising effect on type 2 diabetes mainly due to the plant compound chlorogenic acid. Adding sunflower seeds to foods like bread may help decrease carbs’ effect on your blood sugar. The protein and fat of the seeds slow the rate at which the stomach empties, thus allowing a more gradual release of sugar from carbs.

Healthy for the heart

Sunflower seeds are rich in healthy fats like polyunsaturated fat and monounsaturated fat. Studies found that consumption of seeds including sunflower seeds were linked to lower rates of cardiovascular disease.
