In a surprising move, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani resigned from his post on Saturday.
The unexpected development comes ahead of Gujarat polls next year.

After his unprecedented exit, Rupani addressed the press and said his resignation is in accordance with the "BJP's tradition" of providing all party workers an equal opportunity.

He further added that he is committed to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and is ready to serve in whichever role the party assigns him.

When asked under whose leadership the assembly elections would be contested, Rupani said the party is guided by the central leadership of Modi.

The opposition Congress party was quick to point out that ‘it reflects the BJP's lack of confidence in its own chief minister’

Rupani, as well as the BJP, has so far not revealed who his successor would be.

Recently, BJP also had to change Chief Ministers in Karnataka and Uttarakhand.
