In a big win for tech companies US President Biden has let the ban of H1-B visas that was imposed by Trump expire and the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has completed the selection of H-1B petitions through a lottery for FY22.
United States capped the H-1B visas for the 2022 fiscal year as it got enough electronic applications during its initial registration period. The selected petitioners can start filing applications from April 1, 2021.
The US issues 85,000 H-1B visas per year. Indians and Indian IT firms are one of the largest beneficiaries of the H-1B visa is a non-immigrant visa.
In FY21 close to 2.67 lakh registrations were received for H1-B visas of which more than 60% were from India.
