Shutter Kidambi Srikanth went down fighting in the final of BWF World Badminton Championships as he lost the match 21-15, 22-20 against Singapore's Loh Kean Yew at Huelva, Spain.
It seemed that Srikanth would run away with the first game after taking 4 points advantage at the break but Loh make a spirited comeback with his speed across the court and winning the opening game 21-15.
Srikanth made a spirited comeback in the second game after lagging behind at the break. The battle for the Championship went down to a nail-biting contest after the Indian shuttler saved two game points. However, his poor net play and two unforced error at the end denied him a historic World Championship title.
The former World number one Srikanth has to settle with Silver, though this has been Indian men's best performance at the Badminton World Championships given Lakshya Sen also ended his campaign with a Bronze after losing the semifinal.
Notably, legendary shuttler Prakash Padukone was the first Indian player to clinch a medal at World Championship. He won bronze way back in 1983 while B Sai Praneeth won bronze in 2019.
Two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu is the only Indian to win Gold at World Championship.
