Desh bhakti seems to be Bollywood's war cry this year and what better way to celebrate that, than an impressive line up of films. Revisiting historical victories through cinema has always been an intriguing genre, and it has its loyal fan following too. What's more, these films are great crowd-pullers, wholesome family entertainers that all can watch together.
Here are some upcoming films which are paying a tribute to India's brave hearts.
One of the most awaited movies of the year, 'Shershaah' tells the story of Captain Vikram Batra who played a major role in leading India’s victory in the 1999 Kargil War, sacrificing himself for his nation. The film has Sidharth Malhotra in the lead role and Kiara Advani as the female lead. It releases on 12th August on Amazon Prime Video.
'Bhuj-The Pride Of India' is another war movie set against the backdrop of the 1971 war, this film stars Ajay Devgn playing the role of IAF squadron leader Vikram Karnik who, along with the help of 300 women in nearby villages, rebuilt the Bhuj airstrip which was destroyed during the war. The movie is releasing on 13th August on Disney+Hotstar.
Vicky Kaushal fans are waiting for this one. 'Sam Bahadur' follows the story of Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw, who was the chief of Indian Army during the Indo-Pak war of 1971. The story of a hero and patriot, the film is being helmed by Meghna Gulzar and a release date is yet to be announced.
'Major' is a bilingual film and will be a tribute to the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who became a martyr during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Actors Adivi Sesh and Saiee Manjrekar will be seen in the lead roles and the movie is scheduled to be released this year.
'Ekkeess' is a biopic on the life of Second lieutenant Arun Khetarpal and the role will be played by Varun Dhawan. The movie was announced by Sriram Raghavan, the man behind 'Andhadhun', which got rave reviews. Second lieutenant Arun Khetarpal was awarded the Param Vir Chakra posthumously after he sacrificed his life during the 1971 war. No release date has been announced yet.
