India has one of lowest coronavirus cases and fatalities per million according to the statement by health ministry. The statement said that the high-level Group of Ministers on Covid-19 met on Saturday and were briefed about the country's coronavirus situation. 'The global comparison depicted that India has 2,424 cases per million and 44 deaths per million compared to the global average of 3,161 and 107.2 respectively,' the ministry said.
As of Saturday, eight states -- Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha and Telangana -- contribute around 73% of the active caseload, the ministerial panel was informed. The health ministry also said that seven states -- Maharashtra, Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal -- account for 81% of total deaths due to coronavirus infection.
