As many as 14 children have tested positive for infections like Hepatitis B, C and HIV after undergoing blood transfusions at government-run Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur.
The children, aged between the ages of 6 and 16, are among the 180 thalassemia patients who receive blood transfusions at the centre.
According to Hindustan Times, Dr Arun Arya, the head of the paediatrics department, said that this is a cause for concern and shows the risks blood transfusion involves.
“At the time of transfusion, the doctors should have [also] vaccinated the children against Hepatitis B,” he added.
