Around 33% of potable water in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad is contaminated with faecal matter, according to a Hindustan Times report quoting district officials.

Water samples were collected from 359 locations such as residential societies, schools, hotels and commercial complexes in the past two months. According to the Hindustan Times report, 238 samples were satisfactory and 121 were contaminated.

A district official said that the faecal contamination could be due to mixing of sewerage or broken sewer lines or failure to disinfect.
