Two people have been arrested after a five-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra was kidnapped and killed by her uncle over a land dispute.
The victim, a resident of Pharaira village, was abducted from her house on March 19. The girl's family said the kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₹6 lakh for her safe return.
After he was unable to arrange the amount, the girl's father informed the police about the kidnapping, following which, the police launched a search operation. The girl's body was found on a mustard field in the village on March 21.
Amit, the girl’s uncle was arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder. He confessed to the crime and revealed that his friend, Nikhil, a resident of the neighbouring village, had helped him, India Today reported.
The murder allegedly took place on Nikhil’s farm, and he too has been arrested.
During the questioning by the police, Amit alleged the girl’s grandfather had cheated him by buying 5 bighas of his land at a low price. He said the crime was an attempt to recover the amount lost in the land deal.
When the girl’s father could not pay the ransom amount, Amit killed the girl.
