In a distressing incident, seven personnel of the Indian Army went missing after an avalanche in Arunachal Pradesh, as per reports.

The avalanche occurred in the high-altitude Kameng sector, and the missing soldiers were reportedly part of a patrol team. Search and rescue operations were launched to look for the troops.

The Army reportedly said that the area has had inclement weather and heavy snowfall in recent days.

Winter months in high-altitude border areas can prove to be unsafe for soldiers. In May 2020, two Army personnel reportedly died in an avalanche in Sikkim. In 2019, at least six Army soldiers died due to avalanches and snow slides while being deployed at Siachen Glacier.

Meanwhile, in another section of India's border with China, Indian soldiers were seen using skis to navigate the snow-covered area. Indian Army shared visuals from Uttarakhand's Chamoli to show how troops maintain vigil even in punishing terrain.
