Amid attempts to cut the massive backlog for US visa appointments, the US embassy in India on Sunday said that Indians seeking B1 and B2 visa can apply for the interview at select American embassies abroad.

Citing Thailand as an example, it said that the country has appointment capacity for B1 and B2 visa (travel and business). The wait time is reportedly 14 days whereas wait time in Kolkata is 589 days and 638 in Mumbai, as
of now.

"Do you have upcoming international travel? If so, you may be able to get a visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in your destination. For example, @USEmbassyBKK has opened B1/B2 appointment capacity for Indians who will be in Thailand in the coming months," US embassy, India, tweeted.
