Announcing the verdict on Article 370, Supreme Court Justice SK Kaul recommended setting up a 'Truth and Reconciliation Commission'. He stressed on the need to understand the human rights violation.

Justice Kaul said that truth telling provides an opportunity for the victims to share their experiences and helps heal the wounds. He added that it also paves the way for reconciliation. 

Justice Kaul further said that the human rights violation in the Valley must by both state and non-state actors must be recorded. He also drew attention to the part of population that migrated from Kashmir in 1989-90.

The Supreme Court upheld the abrogation of Article 370 and ordered Election Commission to hold assembly elections by September 30, 2024.
