Days after a passenger on an Air India flight was booked for allegedly indulging in unruly behaviour and smoking inside the plane, he refused to pay the bail amount, and instead opted to go to jail.
Ratnakar Dwivedi on 13 March 2023 argued with a court in Mumbai when asked to pay ₹25,000 for bail. He claimed that he had read online that that the fine payable under section 336 of the IPC is ₹250, which he is ready to pay, but not the bail amount. Following this, he was sent to jail, as per news agency PTI.
Air India had said a passenger was found smoking in the lavatory of the flight and behaved in an unruly and aggressive manner, despite repeated warnings.
According to Mumbai Police, the accused also caused a disturbance on the aircraft and endangered the lives of all passengers, besides disobeying the pilot's oral and written instructions to keep calm.
