Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Uttar Pradesh's Etawah was awarded two-year imprisonment by an Agra court in a 12-year-old assault case.
Katheria has been convicted of assaulting an officer in the case dating back to 2011.
He was accused of vandalism at a company in a Mall in 2012. He was found guilty under sections 147 (rioting) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the IPC.
Following the conviction, the former Union minister while speaking to ANI said, he appeared before the court normally and he respects the court order, however, he has the right to appeal and will exercise it.
Notably, with today's conviction, Katheria is likely to be disqualified from the Lok Sabha.
He served as the Union Minister of State, the Ministry of Human Resource Development from November 2014 to July 2016.
