The Bihar govt has said that the collapse of an under-construction bridge over the Ganga in Bhagalpur was part of a preventive plan to pull down the structure as it was found to be defective.
Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav said that after a portion of the bridge collapses in April 2022, experts studied the structure and informed the state govt that it had serious defects.
Officials said that though a final report from an IIT-Rourkee team is awaited they decided to pull down the bridge as preventive action.
The bridge was said to have involved an estimated cost of Rs 1,700 crore.
