BSF soldiers attacked by Bangladeshi villagers for stopping cattle grazing on Indian land

In a concerning incident, soldiers of India's Border Security Force were attacked by more than a hundred Bangladeshi villagers. The attack took place on 26 February 2023 along the India-Bangladesh border in Berhampore sector in Murshidabad district.

BSF said that its jawans had stopped Bangladeshi farmers from bringing their cattle to Indian fields for grazing. Subsequently, Bangladeshi villagers crossed onto Indian territory, and attacked BSF soldiers with sticks and sharp-edged weapons, the paramilitary force said.

Two jawans were seriously injured, and their weapons were snatched by the Bangladeshis.

BSF later called for a flag meeting with its Bangladeshi counterpart BGB to recover the weapons, and seek prevention of such incidents.
