A 'diamond rush' is gripping Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district with hundreds of people reportedly digging the soil near an under-construction dam to look for gems.
People thronged the dam site after a viral claim that a contractor had found 'diamond gravel' in the area, according to a Hindustan Times report.
Officials say that anybody can dig a pit of up to 2.5 feet near the dam because the land belongs to the state’s water resources department.
Meanwhile, police were worried about potential law-and-order problems due to a huge influx of people, even from neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh. Police said hundreds of people had reached the Vishramganj dam site with digging equipment.
