The Union Home Ministry on March 11 announced that the eligible refugees seeking Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act can now apply through an online portal.
Taking to social media X, the ministry's spokesperson wrote on X that a web portal has been launched to receive online applications.
"Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) will be notifying today, the Rules under the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA-2019). These rules, called the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024 will enable the persons eligible under CAA-2019 to apply for grant of Indian citizenship," the post read.
"The applications will be submitted in a completely online mode for which a web portal has been provided," it added.
The announcement comes weeks after Home Minister Amit Shah declared that a law to grant citizenship to non-Muslim refugees of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh would come into force before the Lok Sabha elections.
