Soon after being deplaned from an IndiGo airline flight from Delhi to Raipur, senior Congress leader Pawan Khera was arrested by the Assam Police on February 23.
In a rare instance, several party leaders also got off the plane after Khera was deboarded and staged a dharna on the tarmac.
A case has been registered against Congress leader Pawan Khera at Haflong police station in Assam's Dima Hasao district, ANI reported.
'A team of Assam police left for Delhi to take remand of Pawan Khera in connection with the case', Prasanta Kumar Bhuyan, IGP L&O & Spox of Assam police to ANI
'We have requested Delhi police to arrest him (Pawan Khera). We will bring him to Assam after taking permission from a local court', Bhuyan added.
Khera along with other party members was on his way to Raipur to attend the 85th Plenary Session of the Congress when he was asked to deboard. Congress has repeatedly alleged that Khera was stopped without an arrest warrant.
An IndiGo airlines official stated that there were instructions not to allow Khera on the plane as there is a case pending against him, the NDTV reported.
