Mumbai Covid-19 cases rise after 4-day dip, Delhi daily tally highest since April

National capital Delhi and commercial capital Mumbai, both reported a surge in Covid-19 infections which have been triggered by the highly contagious Omicron variant. 

After reporting a sharp dip in cases on Tuesday, leading to some experts claiming that the third wave was flattening in Mumbai, the maximum city saw a 40 per cent jump in the daily tally, recording 16,420 new Covid cases. The positivity rate went up to 24.38% from 18.75%.

For four straight days till Tuesday, Mumbai had witnessed a dip in daily Covid-19 infections.

Delhi logged 27,561 fresh Covid cases, which is a 29 per cent jump since Tuesday and the most number of cases in a day since April. The capital city reported 28,395 cases on April 20 last year.

The positivity rate has touched 26 per cent, which is the highest in seven months.

The city also reported 40 Covid deaths, which is the most since June 10, when it reported 44 deaths.
