A speeding taxi rammed through a crowded Delhi market on March 13, hitting 15 people and killing one of them. In a video of the incident, the car can be seen dangerously cutting through the lane and dragging the street carts behind them.
The driver, allegedly drunk, tried to flee as an angry mob gathered around the car.
Another viral video of the incident shows the mob flipping the car and damaging its windshields before the police arrived to nab the driver.
It is unclear if anyone else was also in the vehicle.
“It happened around 9:30 pm in the Budh Bazaar area. Several people were injured and brought to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital. One person who was in critical condition has died,” the police said in a statement.
Seeta Devi, a 22-year-old resident of Ghaziabad, was identified as the victim who sustained fatal injuries.
“The market was filled with people when it happened. The car came from behind me and hit me. My daughter has injuries in her back and hand,” the woman said.
