In a bid to promote solar energy adoption, the Central Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy's initiative, PM-Surya Ghar Yojana, will offer free electricity to households installing solar panels on their roofs. Families opting for the scheme in Haryana can receive up to 300 units of free electricity monthly, beginning February 13, 2024, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Under the scheme, the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) will cover 60% of the system cost for a 2 kW capacity system and 40% for additional capacity exceeding 2 kW. The CFA is capped at 3 kW. Families can apply for subsidies through the national portal and select an accredited vendor for solar installation. The government aims to provide approximately 7% interest-free loans for residential RTS systems up to 3 kW.

Additionally, participating families can benefit from a 7% interest-free loan for the installation of residential RTS systems up to 3 kW. The scheme not only encourages savings on electricity bills but also offers extra income through the sale of surplus electricity. The government has initiated an awareness campaign to encourage eligible families to apply through the national portal at pmsuryaghar.gov.in.
