After weeks of punishing heat, Delhi woke up to heavy rains and strong winds on Monday.

Several parts of the National Capital and adjoining areas reported power cuts due to the rain.

Airlines are anticipating delays, with passengers scheduled to travel being asked to check flight status before reaching the airports. According to reports, Airport authorities have asked passengers to contact airlines for an update.

As per Delhi Airport website, over 40 departure flights delayed due to bad weather and other related issues. Around 18 arrival flights to Delhi airport delayed due to bad weather and other related issues in the early hours on Monday.

Strong winds have reportedly uprooted trees in parts of Delhi leading to roadblocks. Reports say that traffic congestion during busy hours is to be expected.

The India Meteorological Department said thundershowers with moderate rainfall will continue over the National Capital region during the day too. The IMD also said that thundershower with gusty winds may leave vulnerable structures open to damage.
