Hijab row: Colleges in Karnataka to remain closed till February 16

The Karnataka govt has extended the closure of pre-university colleges and degree colleges till February 16 in wake of the widespread outrage over ban of hijabs inside the classroom. 

This closure is applicable for government, aided, unaided degree colleges, diploma, and engineering colleges

The state govt had on Thursday decided to re-open schools for classes till the 10th standard from Monday. 

The Karnataka High Court, which hearing a petition challenging the hijab ban, had earlier requested the state government to reopen educational institutions and restrained all the students from wearing saffron shawls, scarves, hijab and any religious flag within the classroom with a verdict is passed.

As protests for and against the hijab intensified in different parts of Karnataka the government had declared a holiday for all high schools and colleges in the state for three days, from February 9.
