India has approved its largest hydropower project in the Arunachal Pradesh region bordering China, as it seeks to build renewable generation to meet rising power demand.
The project will be developed by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited which announced receiving approval for expenditure of Rs 1,600 crore on pre-investment activities on Tuesday.
The 2,880 MW Dibang Multipurpose Project is being built on the Dibang River at an estimated cost of 3.9 billion US dollars and will take approximately nine years to build.
