India reports over 1.41 lakh new Covid-19 cases, highest from Maharashtra

India on Saturday reported 1,41,986 new Covid-19 cases which is 21.3 per cent higher than the number of infections reported on Friday.

There are 3,53,68,372 active Covid-19 cases as of now.

Top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra with 40,925 cases, followed by West Bengal with 18,213 cases, Delhi with 17,335 cases, Tamil Nadu with 8,981 cases and Karnataka with 8,449 cases.

285 deaths were reported in the country in the last 24 hours, increasing the total reported death count to 4,83,463.

1,17,100 cases were reported on Friday and on the same day, the country's Covid-19 vaccination coverage crossed 150 crore doses.

Meanwhile, the world surpassed the grim milestone of 300 million Covid-19 cases on Friday, as infections continue their stratospheric surge fuelled by the Omicron variant of coronavirus.

The World Health Organization said that a record 9.5 million Covid-19 cases were tallied globally over the last week, a 71 per cent increase from the previous 7-day period.
