Amid persisting border tension with China, India conducted a successful test launch of the nuclear-capable missile Prithvi-II on 10 January 2023.
The tactical ballistic missile was fired from a test range off the Odisha coast, and hit its target with "high accuracy".
The government said that the short-range missile is a "well-established system", and an "integral part of India's nuclear deterrence".
The "user training launch" successfully validated all operational and technical parameters of the missile, the defence ministry said. The test was conducted at Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, off the coast of Odisha.
The Prithvi-II missile has a range of around 350 kilometres.
