Basking in the glory of Chandrayaan-3, India is all set for its first manned mission to space, the Gaganyaan mission.

Confirming that the mission is on track, Union Minister Jitendra Singh told NDTV that ISRO will send a female robot named 'Vyommitra' on the Gaganyaan mission.

India's first mission to send humans to space got delayed due to the pandemic, but the country is now ready for its first trial scheduled in the first week of October 2023, Singh announced at an NDTV conclave on 26 August 2023.

Vyommitra which in Sanskrit means space friend is a humanoid robot being developed by ISRO to function on board the Gaganyaan.

Vyommitra was first unveiled on 22 January 2020 at the Human Spaceflight and Exploration Symposium in Bengaluru.
