Marking yet another historic first, India is deploying an all-women's platoon of peacekeepers.

The platoon is being sent to Abyei in Africa, an area disputed between Sudan and South Sudan. The all-women's team will be part of the Indian battalion in the UN Mission in Abyei.

This is the single-largest deployment of women peacekeepers in recent years, according to Ruchira Kamboj, Indian ambassador to the United Nations.
