Flights are currently witnessing massive delays due to fog and poor visibility. However, an IndiGo flight (6E-126) from Patna to Pune was delayed for over three hours on Wednesday because the pilot of the aircraft refused to fly after he got news of his grandmother's death.
The aircraft, with 162 passengers on board, was on the tarmac and ready to take off. Right at that time, the first officer was informed about his grandmother's demise. The pilot refused to take off saying he was not in the right frame of mind to fly.
The Hindustan Times reported, "The first officer received information of the sudden demise of his grandmother. An alternate crew was arranged for the flight, and the passengers were served refreshments." IndiGo has not yet issued any statement on the matter.
IndiGo has been in the headlines lately for icreasing inctances of flight delays. In one such incident, a video went viral that showed a passenger hitting the pilot announcing the delay.
In another case, IndiGo passengers were seen having dinner on the tarmac after a flight was delayed for hours and later diverted. Several internet users on X claimed that a Goa to Delhi Indigo flight was delayed for almost 18 hours on January 14 and later diverted to Mumbai.
