Pawan Jaiswal, a journalist from Uttar Pradesh whose report in 2019 exposed the sub-standard meals being served to children as mid-day meals has died after battling cancer.

The journalist was reportedly struggling to pay for his treatments and several of his colleagues last month had issued appeals to crowdfund money for his medical bills.

In 2019, Jaiswal was charged with conspiracy after he filmed students at a government school in Mirzapur eating rotis with salt as their midday meal.

The district administration suspended the teacher of the school and the village panchayat supervisor after his report was released but they also charged him for conspiring against UP govt.

Jaiswal had later issued a video saying he stands by his report and that the facts of the story can be verified by anybody.
