The Congress manifesto released on April 5 gave focus to farmers, promising to bring a legal guarantee to the minimum support price which is announced by the government every year on certain agricultural products.
Giving legal guarantee to the MSP has been one of the key demands of the farmers, and was also recommended by the Swaminathan Commission.
"Congress is the only party that has lent its ear to the distress call of the farmers and farm labour and we are determined to do everything possible to alleviate their pain and make agriculture a desirable livelihood," the grand old party said in its manifesto.
