After 3 decades, ex-staffer of Cheran Transport Corporation gets 300+years in prison

A former employee of Cheran Transport Corporation, now--Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation was sentenced to 383 years in jail by P.K. Sivakumar, First Additional Subordinate Court, Coimbatore on July 28, an ETV Bharat report said. 

The 82-year-old man was awarded the cumulative sentence in a fraud case dating back to 1998. 

As per the FIR, P. Gothandapani who worked as assistant, caused a loss of Rs 28 lakh to the department by allegedly releasing 14 buses to persons who had won an auction without receiving the full payment, and 44 buses by receiving partial payment.

The accused was awarded the cumulative punishment after he was convicted on multiple charges. 

As per the news outlet, the accused man received 188 years of imprisonment one of the fraud case and another 188 years for 47 offenses of forgery.

However, the court finally sentenced the accused to seven years for embezzlement of
government property and slapping a fine of Rs 3.32 crore.
