Amid the mega Central Vista project in Delhi, the government has reportedly decided to rename the historic Rajpath. Rajpath, which was known as Kingsway during British rule, will be rechristened to Kartavyapath, according to sources quoted by news agency PTI.

The New Delhi Municipal Council, or NDMC, has called a special meeting on 7 September to clear the proposal. The entire road and area from the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose statue at India Gate to the Rashtrapati Bhavan will be known as Kartavyapath.

This is in line with the Narendra Modi administration's emphasis on purging symbols of colonial rule.

On 2 September 2022, PM Modi unveiled the Indian Navy's new ensign in which British symbol, the Cross of Saint George, was replaced with Shivaji's royal seal.

A few years ago, the government renamed the street on which the PM's residence is located from Race Course Road to Lok Kalyan Marg.
