A Chhattisgarh government employee has been suspended after he allegedly drained out 41 lakh litres of water from a reservoir in the Kanker district after his mobile phone fell into it.

According to officials, food inspector Rajesh Vishwas had gone to the reservoir for an outing with his friends on May 21 when his Samsung Galaxy S23 fell into a waste reservoir while taking a selfie.

Vishwas reportedly roped in villagers and got diesel pumps to empty the water till his mobile phone was retrieved on May 25.

He said he was told that the water in the reservoir is unusable and which is why he sought verbal permission from the SDO to pump it out.
