The national capital region and many parts of north India woke up to dense fog on 9 January 2023.

In Delhi, visibility was down to 200 metres, leading to issuance of a fog alert by the Indira Gandhi International Airport. Movement of around 40 flights was affected but there were no major delays, according to reports.

The Railways said that nearly 30 trains were delayed by at least 2 hours due to the fog cover.

Late at night on 8 January, Bathinda in Punjab reported 'zero' visibility.
