Cyclone Biparjoy: landfall today; over 70,000 evacuated; disaster teams on standby

Cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall on June 15, 2023, between 4 and 8 pm, crossing Saurashtra and Kachchh in Gujarat.

The 'very severe' cyclone will drive wind speeds up to 120-130 kilometres per hour, and cause heavy to extremely heavy rain in parts of Porbandar, Rajkot, Morbi, Junagadh, Saurashtra, and North Gujarat.

Around 74,000 people have been evacuated to shelters, with 8 teams of NDRF, 12 teams of SDRF on standby along with road and electricity department officials.
