A policeman addicted to gambling allegedly attacked his family, murdering his father-in-law, and injuring his wife and mother-in-law in Maharashtra's Nashik. The incident occurred on April 8, as per reports.
Suraj Ugalmugle's gambling addiction was causing friction in his marriage, according to a police official quoted by news agency PTI. He was deployed with Manmad police's Riot Control Force. Suraj's wife Puja had also reportedly complained to Upnagar police about her cop husband's gambling problem.
On April 8, Puja was with her parents at their place in Dodi Budruk in Sinnar. Suraj visited his in-laws, where an argument broke out. The cop allegedly stabbed his father-in-law, who died two days later. The wife and mother-in-law were also injured, and rushed to a private hospital by neighbours.
The accused policeman fled from the scene after the incident. Villagers reportedly held a protest and blocked the Nashik-Pune highway to press for Ugalmugle's arrest.
