A new addition to the weapons arsenal of terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir is worrying the Indian Army.
In some recent military operations, terrorists used American armour-piercing bullets. In a few cases, terrorists were able to breach the bulletproof jackets of Indian soldiers.
To counter this threat, the Army is upgrading the equipment provided to soldiers in the Union Territory. Instead of using "level-3 jackets", soldiers will be provided with "level-4 jackets" which provide better protection against armour-piercing bullets, according to an NDTV report quoting Army sources.
Armour-piercing rounds are steel-core bullets which can even breach certain bulletproof materials. It is believed that the bullets were left in Afghanistan when Western troops withdrew last year.
Recently-retired Army chief General MM Naravane had said that some military equipment from Afghanistan had made its way to Kashmir. This included night-vision devices.
