A student group at IIT Bombay has alleged that a first-year Dalit student was driven to end his life due to discrimination against SC students on campus.

In a series of tweets, Ambedkar Periyar Phule Study Circle alleged that Darshan Solanki’s death was an ‘institutional murder’ due to ‘harassment’ and ‘lack of representation of faculty and counsellors from the marginalised’.

According to the police, 18-year-old Solanki allegedly died by suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of a hostel building located on the campus on February 12.

No suicide note has been recovered and the police are probing a case of accidental death, PTI reported.

The deceased, who hailed from Ahmedabad, was a first-year student of the B.Tech (Chemical) course.

The incident came to light after security guards on the campus spotted the youth lying in a pool of blood, a police official said.
