A mystery disease is apparently spreading through some villages in Rajasthan. Seven children have died in a span of 5 days in Rajasthan's Sirohi district, and the cause is not yet known, as per a Hindustan Times report.

The victims were aged between 2 years and 14, and exhibited symptoms like fever and seizures, before death. Joint director (health) Jogeshwar Prasad was quoted as saying that the cases seem to be of an acute viral disease, but lab tests would give the final answer.

Authorities have reportedly surveyed 300 houses and sent 58 samples to a lab in Jaipur. The affected children reportedly died within a day of exhibiting the symptoms. Officials said that at least 3 of the victims had consumed local flavoured ice, but food poisoning could not have caused such quick deaths.

The cases have been reported from Fulabai Kheda and Fulaber villages. AIIMS Jodhpur is also reportedly sending a team of doctors to the affected areas.
