A day after angry farmers protested a drop in prices at Asia's biggest onion market in Nashik, Opposition MLAs showed support by going to the Maharashtra Assembly carrying onions on their heads.

Legislators of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also wore garlands of onions to protest against the government on 28 February 2023.

A day earlier, farmers stopped onion auctions at Lasalgaon Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) after the price of the kitchen staple fell from ₹4 per kg to ₹2 per kg. The protesting farmers demanded that the government ensure the auction of onions at ₹15-20 per kg.
