A physical altercation occurred between members of the Indian National Congress party, and Kerala police personnel. The Congress workers were staging a protest in Thiruvananthapuram when the clash occurred.

Visuals of the incident showed the two groups pushing and shoving each other, before a Congress worker fell. One of the policemen also kicked a protestor.

The demonstration was reportedly organised over the controversial SilverLine train project. The project, also known as K-Rail, has seen fierce protests from Opposition parties, but the Left government has been adamant.

The project envisages semi-high-speed trains connecting the northern and southern points of the coastal state of Kerala. Trains will run at 200 km/h between Kasaragod and Thiruvananthapuram, cutting travel time from 12 hours to 4 hours, claims the government.

However, the Opposition claims that the Rs 63,000 crore project will ensnare the state in debt.
