Watch: Violence on Ram Navami in Gujarat; mobs clash, police fire tear gas shells

Incidents of violence were reported on the occasion of Ram Navami from some places in Gujarat. Communal clashes reportedly broke out in Himmatnagar and Khambat.

Mobs from 2 communities pelted stones at each other, and vandalised shops and vehicles, according to news reports. Police reportedly used tear gas to pacify the violent crowds, and additional forces were also called in.


In Himmatnagar, violence broke out after a Ram Navami procession reached the Chhapariya locality, police officials were quoted as saying. In Anand district's Khambat, similar scenes played out, with clashes, vandalism, and arson.


Ram Navami is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Hindu god Ram.
