The wife of the last Nawab of Malerkotla in Punjab, Begum Munawwar-ul-Nisa passed away on October 27, aged 100. Begum Nisa, the descendant of Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan of Malerkotla and a princess holds a significant place in Punjab's history.
Nawab Sher Mohammad Khan is revered for his protest against the execution of the younger Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh, Baba Zorawar Singh, and Baba Fateh Singh, in the court of the Subedar of Sirhind, Wazir Khan, in 1705.
Over two years ago, she handed over the 150-year-old Mubarak Manzil Palace of Malerkotla to the state government, entrusting them with its restoration, renovation, and preservation as a monument.
Begum Nisa's passing away was confirmed by Arshad Dali, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader. With no direct heirs, her nephew, Azeez Mian, took care of her final rites.
