Violence broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, as separatist leader Yasin Malik was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court.
Clashes between Malik's supporters and security forces were reported from Maisuma in Srinagar. Yasin Malik, who pleaded guilty in a terror funding case, hails from Maisuma, which is a locality near Srinagar's famous Lal Chowk.

A mob was seen pelting stones, while security forces fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. At Malik's residence in Maisuma, a large crowd, including women, gathered. Slogans in support of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, or JKLF, leader were reportedly raised.
A shutdown was also observed in some parts of Srinagar. Heavy deployment of security forces was seen in the Valley.
