The Maharashtra GST department during a raid recovered silver bars worth Rs 10 crore, plus a business turnover of a staggering Rs 1,764 crore from an office measuring just 35 sq. ft.
The GST department received a tip off and raided the premises of south Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazaar and other locations belonging to a Chamunda Bullion.
The raided locations were not registered as place of business.
During the raid, the officials felt something was amiss and in one of the offices, upon inspection, found a concealed room with the ‘loot’ safely inside. Cash worth Rs. 9.78 crore and 19kg silver bricks worth Rs 13 lakh was retrieved from the room.
The counting of the cash alone took over 6 hours.
When questioned, owners and family members of the premises denied knowledge about the loot.
